License of the Portable Map Archive specification

The specification text in this directory (portable-map-archive-*.md, README.md) and the JSON Schemas in schemas/ are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

You may copy, redistribute, remix, transform and build upon this material for any purpose, including commercially, provided you give appropriate credit ("Portable Map Archive specification, MapLiberator project"), link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.

Implementing the format requires no license at all. Anyone may write software that reads or writes Portable Map Archives, under any terms, without attribution. This license covers the text of the specification and the schema files only.

Placeholder notice. CC BY 4.0 is a placeholder. The final choice between CC BY 4.0 and CC0 1.0 (public-domain dedication) is pending and will be made before the specification is frozen as 1.0. If CC0 is chosen, it will apply to this draft as well.

This license is separate from, and does not apply to, the MapLiberator extension source code or the pma-validate tool, which carry the repository's software license.
